A Truckload of Fish

I know that Idaho Fish and Game (IDFG) stock a lot of lakes and rivers, but I have never been present when they arrive. I got my first experience this week and thousands of rainbow trout were released. It took several minutes for the truck to empty and there were fish around the shoreline and in the bay for quite a while. Remarkably, I only saw one dead fish floating on the surface out of all those fish released. There was a paddleboarder out fishing before the truck arrived and had no success tempting these newly released fish. Later in the afternoon was a different story, as these uneducated fish would strike on just about anything. It is amazing when you think about the millions of fish released every year from hatcheries. There are 22 IDFG hatcheries and 22 commercial hatcheries in Idaho.
