Fluorescent Pink Sunset

The summer seemed like we were going to escape another bad smoke season, but this August and September brought thunderstorms, lightning, and fire. The Four Corners Fire in Cascade started in August, but prevailing winds have kept the smoke to a minimum. The fires in the Wallowa’s have brought in smoke and those fires have grown, but the storms that came through around Labor Day started fires that now surround us and the smoke this week has been bad. None of these fires are threatening our area. The only plus to this time of year are the sunrises and sunsets. The sunset this evening turned the sun fluorescent pink. Prior to the pink, the sun was flaming orange and so was the pond. The haze gives the whole landscape a surreal feeling. The good news is we have moisture from a hurricane that is due to arrive next week. We are already experiencing cold night, so the moisture and temperatures should start to put out these fires and our smoke season will come to an end. (BTW, the fire on Brundage Mountain was kept to a small size and is not a threat to the resort)
