This was one of the best seasons for Cross Country Skiing at Jug Mountain Ranch that many of us have experienced. This is a tribute to the staff and to Dave and Ruth Carey for the effort that was put into this ski season. The grooming was consistent and well done. Like most of the Nordic areas in McCall, it is cost prohibitive to groom every day, but Jug Mountain Ranch kept a very predictable schedule all season for grooming. Not only was the grooming consistent, but it was well done even in some of the difficult conditions.
Jug Mountain Ranch hosted the 2022 Intermountain Youth Championships. This was a two-day event with young skiers coming from around the region, including Washington, Oregon, and Montana. It was exciting to see so many young skiers many emulating the skiers that they had just witnessed in the Olympics. Again, Jug Mountain Ranch did an exceptional job preparing and catering to the needs of this event.
Jug Mountain Ranch also maintained and groomed a biathlon course all season for the adult and youth McCall Nordic & Biathlon Team. The season ended with the Bring Back Biathlon invitational event, bringing in competitors from around the area. The groomers must maintain a shooting range, penalty lap, and the trails leading up to the range. The biathletes had great skiing and shooting all winter.
So, this is a big thanks to everyone at Jug Mountain Ranch for a great season. If you didn’t get a season’s pass this year to enjoy the trails, you may want to consider getting on next year.
