This past week I was able to participate in a PSIA continuing education event with Emily Lovett at Bear Basin in McCall, Idaho. Emily Lovett did a great job helping our group learn more about current thinking about cross country ski instruction. Emily was selected to be on the PSIA Nordic Demo Team this year. I think everyone came away from this event with fresh ideas and more skills for helping participants in classes and clinics. If cross country skiing is something that you have been considering, starting off with an instructor increases your chances of continuing with the sport by high percentage. Having that instructor be a good communicator, knowledgeable, and personable will also improve YOUR success. So, it is great that the instructors at Bear Basin are putting an emphasis on being a certified PSIA instructor which means that every few years you are required to take a continuing education clinic. As many of you know in the 2018-19 ski season, I wasn’t even sure I was going to be able to ski, much less teach again. I couldn’t even get my skis on. Even at this point, making it through a full day on snow can be a challenge. Emily made the day just breeze by with good coaching, fun skill challenges, and interesting discussions. I know that everyone who attended can pass on great concepts to other skiers. Artworkbyllona.com
