Sandhill Cranes Dance

Sandhill Cranes Dance

They love to dance, sandhill cranes, at least this time of the year. This is a piece that I did many years ago but still resonates with me every spring. Sandhill Cranes return to our area sometime in April and will be gone again by late October. The other image that I would like to somehow capture is a pair in flight. They are quite beautiful with a wingspan of 2 meters. We have had such a wet and cold spring this year that our sandhills may have migrated to drier climes to bread this year. We are on the southern edge of their breeding grounds. We will know in another week or two if we see some pairs with chicks. I like to think that some of the sandhill cranes I see may spend the winter with my sister in Florida as that is one of their winter areas. Historically these birds have captured the imagination of many people and cultures and I can see why, they have certainly captivated my imagination.
