The fall fishing season is coming to an end in Idaho. I like to reflect on some of my favorite moments and I often try to capture that in my art. “Breakfast at Kokanees” is one of my pieces from this year. It was a magical time, early in the morning, when the fog is just lifting off the river, the sun is hitting the peaks, and the spawning kokanee are becoming active. I go to these places to go fishing but there is something about being out on the river that really draws me to these places. It is that unspoiled wildness and beauty that makes me want to return each season to witness the kokanee. The river is alive with their bright red bodies. A moment that will soon disappear as the kokanee become food for the bear and birds and other organisms that rely and this yearly treat. I savor these brief encounters and I try to capture that in this piece.
