When the Pond Sings

I love water. I have always enjoyed living near water, enjoying the variety of sights and sounds. This pond that I view on an almost daily basis is rather shallow and has a stream that feeds and drains it. Most winters, when the pond freezes, it is usually followed by snow which insulates the ice. There are warm spots and flowing spots, so the insulated ice does not form well. This year we have had a rather cold November and the pond is covered in ice with diamonds of hoar frost on top. With lows in the single digits and days that warm into the high 20’s the ice contracts and expands. The result is the rumbles and echoes of a singing lake. Artwork by Llona
